VAN STEE — Heartbreaker, Nervewrecker, Meansucker
Yellow Vinyl LP
This is VAN STEE’s second full-length album, pressed here on vibrant yellow vinyl. It’s a vinyl-only release with digital download included.
Heartbreaker, Nervewrecker, Meansucker takes its name from a phrase used by Wesley Willis. Willis would refer to the difficult people and emotional struggles in his life as “heartbreakers, nervewreckers, meansuckers.” The phrase stuck with VAN STEE because it captures the tension between frustration and humor, pain and resilience, all themes that thread through this record.
The album’s sound is emotional and melodic, grounded in indie rock with moments that are raw, reflective, and unexpectedly catchy. The tracks balance intimate storytelling with punchy arrangements with production for Lance W. Conrad.
Songs like “Blanket” have become fan favorites. The opening track “Here Comes the Fire”, featuring contributions from Minneapolis artist HALEY.
The cover features original felt artwork by Charlie Van Stee
